Tattoo Hygiene & Safety Training

Every fine line starts on a clean station. This course covers infection control and safe studio practice, from the first barrier you lay down to the last thing you tell a client before they leave.

FOR

New learners building safe habits, and working artists tightening their studio routine.

FOCUS

Barriers, cross-contamination, setup and teardown, sharps and waste, aftercare communication.

NOTE

Skin penetration rules differ between Australian states and councils. Always check your local requirements.

08

A station, recorded from start to finish

Hygiene is not a separate topic you revisit now and then. It is a sequence you repeat every time you sit down to tattoo, so the course follows that sequence in the same order you work.

i. Barrier protection

Gloves, barrier film, bags for machines and cords, and which surfaces you cover before you open a single sterile item. You learn where barriers fail and how to spot it.

ii. Controlling cross-contamination

Clean and dirty zones, when to change gloves, how to reach for ink or a rinse cup mid-session, and the small habits that stop contamination moving from skin to bottle to surface.

iii. Setup, teardown, sharps and waste

An orderly workstation setup, safe handling of needle cartridges, sharps container use, separating clinical waste, and a teardown and disinfection routine that leaves the station ready for the next client.

iv. Aftercare communication

Explaining aftercare clearly so a client leaves knowing how to look after delicate fine line work, and knowing when a healing concern should go to a health professional.

A tattoo workstation displays ink bottles, a rinse bottle, a tattoo machine, packaged needles, and other supplies on a protective pink-covered surface.

HOW IT IS TAUGHT

Habits built at the station, not memorised from a sheet

You set up, work and break down a real workstation until the routine is second nature. Because regulations vary by state, the training builds sound infection-control practice and shows you how to find and follow the rules where you plan to work.

Learn about the teaching approach on the Trainers page. Current dates, format and what is included are provided when you enquire.

Safe practice underpins every other skill. It suits beginners laying foundations and working artists who want a more deliberate routine alongside Needle & Technique Training or machine work.

Does this course replace local licensing requirements?

No. Each state and local council sets its own rules for skin penetration and tattooing businesses. Check with your local authority about what applies to you.

Can I read about the basics first?

Yes. Start with Tattoo Hygiene & Safety Basics in Training Resources, then How to Choose a Tattoo Course.
